The International Co-ordination Group for the Tsunami Warning System in the Pacific (ICG/ITSU) held its Eleventh Session in Viña del Mar, Chile, from 3 to 7 March 1980. The Group, after having reviewed national activities and the activities of the International Tsunami Information Center (ITIC), in Honolulu, adopted two resolutions and six recommendations:
The sixth session of the International Co-ordination Group for the Tsunami Warning System in the Pacific (ICG/ITSU) was convened at the Silahis International Hotel in Manila, Philippines, on Monday, 20 February 1978, at 10:00a.m. The Unesco National Commission of the Philippines, in co-operation with the National Science Development Board, acted as the host for this meeting, and made arrangements for logistical support.
The International Co-ordination Group for the Tsunami Warning System in the Pacific (ICG/ITSU) held its fifth session in Lima, Peru, from 23 to 27 February 1976. The meeting took place at the Instituto del Mar of the Peruvian Navy, in Callae. Dr. Glenn Flittner, USA, acted as Chairman. The following Member States of the Group were represented: Canada, Chile, Ecuador, France, Peru, Philippines, USA, USSR. Not represented were : China, Guatemala, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore and Thailand. Mexico sent an observer.
The Session was opened by the Chairman of the Group, Dr. S. Suyehiro, who welcomed the participants and guests to the opening session and expressed his sincere thanks to the Government of New Zealand for its kinf offer to host the meeting.
Dr. G. L. Pickard, Vice-Chairman of the Group, opened the meeting, welcomed the participants, and made special mention of the addition of Peru and Thailand to the Group. He reported that as Mr. Klaasse, the Chairman of I.C.G., had retired because of ill health he had acted as Chairman in preparation for this meeting. He acknowledged the assistance of Mr. Klaasse's associates in the U.S.A in preparing the Chairman's report for this meeting.
The meeting was opened by the Vice-Chairman of the Group, Dr. Pickard, acting on behalf of the Chairman who for medical reasons was unable to attend. On behalf of the host country and Department of Energy, Mines and Resources, Dr. Pickard welcomed the delegates and observers to the Univeristy of British Columbia, Vancouver.
The first Meeting of the International Co-ordination Group for the Tsunami Warning System in the Pacific was convened by the USA Delegation Chariman, Mr. J. M. Klaasse. The Group was welcomed to Honolulu on behalf of the host country by ESSA, USC&GS, Senator Fong (US Senator from Hawaii), General Webster (Director, Hawaii Department of Defense) and President Hamilton (University of Hawaii).
